Dance Education

Culture Shock inspires and empowers diverse members of our communities to achieve artistic and personal excellence by providing innovative and progressive training, development, and performance opportunities in the art of hip-hop dance. The organization provides intensive dance training for youths and adults alike.

Utilizing the talents of its dancers and their interest in community outreach to establish programs that educate people about the rich, cultural history of Hip Hop in relation to other art forms. Culture Shock® has created its very own workshop curriculum to provide to locations where dance resources are less available. The in school and after school programs utilize dance and the arts to foster important life skills. Students study the fundamentals in Hip Hop/street dance while performing activities that develop their physical, mental, and social abilities. The workshop curriculum is guided by the CA State Standards for Art Education and provides a comprehensive, practical education of Hip Hop/streetdance.

Our troupes undergo intense training to hone their dance skills. Dancers must attend rigorous weekly rehearsals, generally 4 to 7 hours per week, which are a great training ground for individual development and a foundation for a dance career.

Current and former Culture Shock dancers work in teams to direct the youth troupes. The younger troupes benefit from having the veteran Culture Shock dancers to look to for inspiration and help, and the tiers provide younger dancers with a clear development path and a goal to work towards.
